Norton Internet Security 2008—Get it Free (almost)

Norton Internet Security 2008 is a decent package for those who want all-in-one protection in Windows Vista. I had a lot of difficulties with previous packages (slowdowns, quirks) but these one is completely non intrusive. It seems like Symantec engineers have finally got it right and made a nice resident shield.

Interface still lacks clarity—practically no lessons have been learnt from previous versions—but it not critical [screenshot 1, screenshot 2]. What I did not like most is how Internet Explorer and Firefox are zombied with fishing and content filtering implant from Norton. It makes browsing slow and is simply overkill.

Use it free for 90 days!

Norton Internet Security 2008 is not cheap. The price from official website is 70$ for three licences. You can download standard trial which is only 15 days.

There is a secret link though from Microsoft website that leads to few security software providers "approved" by Microsoft for use in Windows Vista.

The page will show you two options: Norton Internet Security™ 2008 (although the link is actually for NIS2007 !) or Norton Antivirus™ 2008.

Here is the direct links:

Download Norton Internet Security 2008 OEM version 90 days trial

Download Norton Antivirus 2008 OEM version 90 days trial

Download Norton Antivirus 2007 OEM version 90 days trial

Buy NIS 2008

OEM version means that normally you would get with new hardware and allows to be used for 90 days. If you are somebody like me who reinstall system every two months, you should really appreciate this option!

And by the way, if you want to buy it while OEM version is installed, it is cheaper—50$. It is for only one computer, but odds are you don't need three licences anyway.
