Security Software for Windows 7
Official Security Software Providers for Windows 7 [Updated]
2 April 2009 by Jean De Daumier-SmithNew operating system from Microsoft comes with the same old question from the users — what is compatible and what is not. Security software is blindly considered as a prerequisite nowadays, so which antivirus (firewall, spyware remover, etc.) works fine with Windows 7?
Apart from the user experience, here it comes an official input from Microsoft.
According to the Microsoft website there are three “recommended” security software providers for Windows 7 up to now (situation can be altered any day) for year 2009:
AVG with its version 8 product line-up

Norton 360 Version 3.0 by Symantec

As per Norton, “When a the production version of Windows 7 is released, users of Norton AntiVirus 2009, Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 Version 3.0 with active subscriptions will receive the appropriate compatibility update. The update will be delivered automatically online, and no user action will be required. Users of older versions of Norton security products can visit our upgrade center for information on how to get the latest versions of their products.”
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7
Kaspersky 2009 with its “technical preview of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7”. Strangely though, the web-site says that “the prototype includes not only an antivirus component but an effective and fully functional firewall and anti-spam filter”. So, it is more than just an antivirus.

“Experimental” support for the latest beta version of Microsoft Windows 7
“The product can now be natively installed on Windows 7. Note that some features, such as Browsing Protection and Enhanced Process Monitoring, don’t yet support Windows 7. [latest version 9.30 build 136]

I would not really trust Microsoft in specifying this particular software range for Windows 7, but at least this is official. Honestly, I think it is a quick-and-dirty compilation, I’m just curious whether there is any real deal behind the scene for being promoted like that.
